Emma Watson On The Red Carpet Again
July 23, 2009
Harry Potter star Emma Watson is on the up.
She is made for life with the fortune she has made from playing Hermione Jean Granger in Harry Potter films. And now she is number 1 on the list for photographers at film premieres when she walks down the red carpet. She is fast becoming a fashion icon. Whether it’s her own style or that of her stylists (designers are apparently falling over each other to dress her) she made headlines nearly every day at the beginning of July 2009 by appearing in a range of different outfits.
After looking back at old pictures of herself, she was reported as saying this week:
“I always think ‘Is that really me?”
She has come a long way since those early Harry Potter films, appearing recently on David Letterman’s Late Show With Letterman. Now 19, Watson is one of the most photographed young women around. But she better be careful. Walking down the red carpet may be a regular occurrence, but she needs to keep her cool, sophisticated style and not follow the long line of Z listers who will get drunk, make fools of themselves, and fall out of their clothes. She doesn’t want to become a star famous for partying where her bar bill is as big as her carpet cleaning bill as she makes a mess on the well trodden red carpet which suits her so much right now. Otherwise carpet cleaning London will be a phrase she is identified with rather than style queen London.
Emma didn’t disappoint as she greeted over 3,000 screaming fans at the premier of the latest installment in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince.
Do you think Emma Watson is our new style queen?

Is Bad Publicity Good Publicity?
July 23, 2009
So, is bad publicity actually good publicity. General consensus is that bad publicity is better than no publicity at all.
So for all you companies out there, all you individuals, business owners, Z list Celebs and anyone else trying to get a name for yourself, if you’ve got something to flaunt then flaunt it, whether it’s good, bad or ugly.
Many celebrities and businesses are all over the news each week and it’s nothing to do with their talents or achievements. Just look at some of the ‘honours’ handed out by The Sun Newspaper each year in their ‘Bizarre’ Awards; shagger of the year, cainer of the year…the list goes on and on.
If you are a lothario, or you are constantly on the party circuit it seems that this is enough these days to get you publicity. The recipients of these awards are gratious for their prizes and then feel abliged to live up to their name, almost to prove they are not just a one year wonder.
Then there’s I’m A Celebrity where and publicity, good or bad is welcome, even if it takes a meal of testicles to make it happen. It seems that the ever growing trend of Reality TV means that it’s easier than ever to obtain publicity, whether it is good or bad. So my view is that bad publicity (or any publicity) is better than no publicity.
What do you think? Doesn’t it make you sick?

Celebrities will do anything to stay in the public eye - it seems any publicity is better than no publicity
Britney Spears Publicity Stunts
July 22, 2009
So, where do we start…the virgin, the bride, the bald off the rails singer. Publicity stunts and Britney Spears are as common together as Rodney and Del Boy, Ant and Dec and David and Victoria.
First there was the ongoing saga of “is she or isn’t she” a virgin, following her much reported and constantly public relationship with Justin Timberlake, then of N Sync.
Then there was the quickie marriage in Las Vegas to Jason Alexander back in 2004. Then the divorce.
Then there was the marriage to Kevin Federline. Then there was the divorce.
The next publicity exercise was the shaving of her head in a rumoured breakdown, as well as the flashing a little too much flesh on nights out with Lindsey Lohan and Paris Hilton, where all 3 were photographed knickerless during nights out.
Classy and attention grabbing!!!

Britney Spears shaved her head in a rumoured breakdown - or was it simply a publicity stunt?
Do you think Britney shaved her head as part of an ongoing publicity stunt?

Papa John’s Pizza Leaves Competitors In The Cold
July 21, 2009
UK pizza chain Papa John’s turned it’s back on frozen pizza dough in a PR exercise to improve it’s image in it’s continuing growth in the UK pizza market. Frozen dough is now officially a thing of the past at Papa John’s with Marketing Director Simon Wallis quoting:
“We wanted to really draw people’s attention to the fact that frozen pizza dough is a thing of the past for Papa John’s, and we felt that this was a great way of highlighting that we are the only major chain to make this promise.
“We have recently replaced our only frozen dough based pizza with a great new fresh Authentic Thin Crust product which now means that we never use frozen dough on the menu.
He went on to say:
“All the feedback we receive shows that customers can really taste the difference between fresh and frozen dough, and hopefully this move will really raise the bar for the entire pizza business in the UK.”
After building a huge ice sculpture of a pizza in London’s Leicester Square, complete with toppings, the pizza was then demolished as part of the PR exercise. Members of Papa John’s management team then handed out fresh pizza to passers by.

Film Festival Publicity Stunts - Sacha Baron Cohen as Borat and Bruno
July 20, 2009
Film festival publicity stunts are a week by week occurrence. A film festival is the perfect platform to ‘make and entrance’ or capture the public eye with what you are wearing or how you behave.
Many celebs spend hours signing autographs and shaking hands with their legions of fans. Many others simply wear revealing outfits in order to get famous by flashing the flesh. The film festival publicity stunt of recent years that stood out for me was Sacha Baron Cohen’s portrayal of Borat in Cannes (2006) sporting his now infamous lime green mankini.

Borat publicity stunt
More recently, Sacha Baron Cohen has also walked the line as Bruno and in Germany wore his naked outfits along with other members of the cast. I can’t wait to see this film - it looks equally as hilarious as Borat, and I just think it’s genius. If you can think of any other ’stand out’ performances on the red carpet, please let me know.

Lady GaGa Publicity Stunts
July 19, 2009
Lady GaGa is now a name synonymous with PR stunts. I have rarely seen anybody more photographed over recent months than the new queen of modern pop for her utterly outrageous outfits worn on stage, to events and on TV.
Her ever changing and ever outrageous image is a publicity stunt in itself. She gets headlines every week for an appearance here, a photo there. And most recently it seems that a Kermit the Frog Muppet style jacket on German TV complete with Kermit head piece has now hit the headlines.
Lady GaGa, real name Stephanie Germanotta, has shocked over the last 6-12 months with a mix of revealing, inspiring and ridiculous outfits to gain her publicity. Her music (which isn’t bad considering I’m not a massive pop fan) also helps, but I wonder whether she’d be such a big figure in the public eye without her outfits.

Lady GaGa's Outfits Are A Constant Publicity Stunt
Lady GaGa was signed by singer Akon in a combined deal with his Kon Live Distribution label quoted:
‘People dissed her because of the way she dresses, but she’s hot.
‘Everyone wants to look like her. She’ll walk around in London in her underwear and everyone will catch on.’
I’ve included a few pics to show how ‘dressing different’ can really help get you publicity.

Was Jordan Trying To Get The Public Back On Her Side?
July 17, 2009
So, was Katie Price (Jordan) trying to get the public back on her side with the recent interview with Piers Morgan earlier this months. Many claim it was a cry for sympathy, or a PR exercise to get people to change their opinion of her following the drinking, cavorting and frankly embarrassing scantily clad performances of the previous month.
Katie claims she suffered a miscarriage just weeks before the couple’s split and the end of their marriage. She also admitted to being a “binge drinker” and said she didn’t want the marriage to end.
After commenting numerous times that Peter Andre was her ‘life’, she then however put the final nail in the coffin with the outrageous comment:
‘Once the divorce is over I could be married next summer.’
I wonder if she has anyone in mind?
Ladies and Gents - Katie Price (or more aptly Jordan if she continues to go back to her old ways) is officially back on the market again!

‘That Dress’ - Classic PR Stunts
July 14, 2009
There are many classic PR stunts that have been pulled by people in the public eye, but not many that stay in the memory for as long as Liz Hurley in ‘that dress’. Remember the seemingly unknown Elizabeth Hurley when she turned up to star studded event on the arm of Hugh Grant back in the ’90s in the safety pin dress. Well ‘that dress’ as it’s now known has been voted the best red carpet dress of all time.
It was worn to the premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral back in 1994 and many celebs have tried to repeat the PR stunt over the last decade and a half, however it has yet to be surpassed.
Held together by little other than large gold safety pins, pictures of the luscious Liz appeared around the world in newspapers, magazines and on the TV. Liz Hurely has since moved on to model, appear in films and set up her own range of swim wear. The dress is widely regarded as the reason she has managed to increase her profile and make a career. What a PR stunt!!!
A Telegraph report listed the top 20 ‘red carpet dresses’ back in 2009. The results of the top 10 are as follows:
1. Liz Hurley - ‘That Versace ’safety pin’ Dress’ (1994)
2. Audrey Hepburn - White flower pattern Givenchy dress (1954)
3. Julia Roberts - black Valentino dress (2001)
4. Catherine Zeta Jones - Versace red dress (1999)
5. Jennifer Lopez - sheer green Versace dress (2000)
6. Keira Knightley - one shoulder plum Vera Wang dress (2006)
7. Kate Winslet - one shouldered red flower strap gown by Ben de Lisi (2002)
8. Halle Berry - embroidered net Elie Saab topped dress (2002)
9. Bjork - Swan dress from Marjan Pejoski (2001)
10. Kate Moss - Ripped gold satin classic gown by Christian Dior (2007)

Peaches Geldof’s Marriage Was A Publicity Stunt
July 10, 2009

Peaches with Paris Hilton
As if we didn’t know, it has now been confirmed by her husband (or ex husband) that the marriage between Peaches Geldof and Max Drummy was…you’ve guessed it…a publicity stunt.
Celebrities (especially Z list celebs) like Jodie Marsh, anyone from Big Brother, and Peaches Geldof it appears will do anything to get into the public eye. Notorious PR stunts include wearing (or not wearing) revealing outfits on the red carpets, sex tapes, clubbing every night of the week and ending up with sick down your designer clothes and appearing on Celebrity Big Brother or I’m (or I Used To Be) A Celebrity - Get Me Out Of Here!.
Peaches Geldof however went a large step further by having a whirlwind marriage to Max Drummy, her estranged husband and the couple were together for all of 6 months. The stunt was purely a PR stunt to boost their names in the public eye.
Wimbledon Great PR For London Ahead of 2012 Games
July 7, 2009

centre court at Wimbledon complete with new roof
As always, Wimbledon really helped to sell London as a worldwide sporting capital. But this year there was the added bonus of the weather.
Wimbledon is always a special occasion in the British summer of sport, and the Ashes will hopefully further enhance the UK’s image as a sporting capital ahead of the football World Cup bid for England in 2018.
Wimbledon is largely regarded as the biggest grand slam on the tennis circuit with its history and setup. However the great British weather usually causes embarrassment with match hold ups, having to pull players off court while the covers are drawn across the courts and players have to wait painfully in the locker room for the sky to clear. This year however, there was very little rain, and the new roof at SW19 on Centre Court was a wonder to behold. Andy Murray played a 5 set thriller on a floodlit centre court for the first time to show that the adaptation of the old centre court had moved with the times to provide an excellent stage to host world class tennis no matter what the weather.
And the influx of famous faces to grace the centre court stands throughout the 2 weeks, most notably the appearance of Pete Sampras, a late arrival from the US to watch Roger Federer eclipse his 14 grand slams shows what a high profile sporting event Wimbledon is.
The 2 weeks at Wimbledon was a great PR campaign for London, English and Great British sport ahead of the Olympics in 2012 and has further raised the profile of England as a sporting venue ahead of the potential World Cup Finals in 2018.
